Sunday, December 20, 2020 3-4:30pm on Zoom A live broadcast from Boston and NYC
A very COVID Christmas: cozy up on your couch and join Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion and THE BANG GROUP for an offbeat holiday show, COVID style.
Cultivating some holiday nostalgia, Boston-based Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion broadcasted excerpts from the 2019 production of Funny Uncle Cabaret, in addition to the premiere of new works - both pre-recorded and live - that spoke to a COVID Currier and Ives holiday season. New York City’s THE BANG GROUP, directed by David Parker and Jeffrey Kazin, shared excerpts from their critically-acclaimed Nutcracker remix, Nut/Cracked, reworked for the times with a smaller and socially spaced cast. THE BANG GROUP joined live from New York City with dancing filmed from an iPhone up-close-and-personal in the studio. As always, each production turned the idea of a typical holiday show on its head. Each year, DiMuro and his team of collaborators and guest artists celebrate chosen families over the ones we are born to in the Funny Uncle Cabaret, while Nut/Cracked shuffles along the edge of silly and sublime with feet donned in tapping toe shoes, reconstructing - with wit and charm - how we hear Tchaikovsky’s traditional score.
Funny Uncle Cabaret and Nut/Cracked streamed on Zoom on Sunday December 20, 2020 from 3-4:30pm, with re-broadcasts between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
