J Michael Winward (he/him) is an independent dance artist, living on Pawtucket and Massachusett land also known as Boston. His solo performances blend movement and memoir, and deal with a variety of topics, including: coming of age, institutional injustice, and the politics of being oneself. In 2016, Michael founded the Steps in Time® program, which brings social partner dance classes and parties to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and senior service community centers in and around Greater Boston. He is a co-founder and co-producer of Dancing Queerly: an annual festival of dance performances, workshops and discussions, by and for the LGBTQ+ community, friends, and allies. Michael is currently a candidate in the MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts program at Goddard College.
